Description of BIS:
XP Monitor
  • The Bispectral Index, or BIS, is a processed EEG parameter that provides a direct measure of the hypnotic effect of anesthetic and sedative agents on the brain
  • The BIS is a continuous measure of the patient’s current hypnotic state
  • Raw EEG information is obtained via a sensor placed on the patient’s forehead.
  Monitor w/ Number Highlight  
  • The BIS processes the EEG information and calculates a number between 0 and 100 that provides a direct measure of the patient’s level of consciousness.
  • A BIS value near 100 indicates the patient is awake and a BIS value of zero indicates isoelectric EEG or the absence of brain activity.
