(Chicago – June 12, 2006) -WHITTMANHART, a Chicago-based premier services company providing integrated solutions in digital communications, process improvement and enabling technologies, is the top international Webby Award Winner in the retail category for 2006 for its development of the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer. The New York Times calls the Webby’s the “Oscars of the Internet.”
"WHITTMANHART worked closely with us to create a color visualization and project planning tool that helps our customers realize the full potential of their decorating projects," said Sheri Thompson, director of color marketing and design for Sherwin-Williams. With the Color Visualizer, homeowners and professionals alike have access to an array of more than 1,400 colors and color combinations that have been coordinated by the Sherwin-Williams color and design experts. Users can quickly see a photo-realistic rendering complete with the faux finish options.
“We are extremely honored to be recognized with an international Webby Award,” said David Skinner, president of Interactive at WHITTMANHART. “It is a testimony of our ability to utilize quality technology products to meet our clients’ needs in visionary ways by unlocking the potential in customer facing applications.”
The Color Visualizer is a unique rich media application integrated into the Sherwin-Williams website. It successfully brings together WHITTMANHART strategy, information architecture and visual design work with leading-edge technologies from Adobe® Flex™ and Scene 7™. With this combination of design and technology, the Color Visualizer offers exceptional usability with immediate rendering speed to deliver a visual experience that is as technologically close to visiting a store as possible.
By clicking on the Color Visualizer visitors can “paint” the interior or exterior of a house. Along with paint colors, visitors can also choose from multiple interior rooms or exterior architectural styles to help them visualize their finished project. Visitors can choose different colors for walls, trim, ceiling and accents. Coordinating shades are suggested, or visitors can choose their own color scheme from the available pallet of Sherwin-Williams colors. Once completed online, the “painted” room and all the associated Sherwin-Williams product information can be printed and taken to a local Sherwin-Williams store, where customers can purchase all of the products necessary to complete their project.
“By integrating Flex with Scene 7’s visualizations technologies, the solution created by WHITTMANHART provides a planning and shopping experience that is on the cutting-edge,” said Sydney Sloan, group product marketing manager, Adobe. “It is exciting that by using Flex and the Adobe Flash platform WHITTMANHART has delivered a unique and useful solution for Sherwin-Williams customers.”
“We’re pleased to work with WHITTMANHART to deploy our dynamic rich media technology used in the Webby Award-winning Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer. Sherwin-Williams' online customers now have the ability to visualize colors and textures in context, facilitating their decision making process and giving them confidence to make an in-store purchase,” said Doug Mack, CEO of Sene7. “Sherwin-Williams' Color Visualizer clearly demonstrates how dynamic rich media can shorten the sales cycle and help reduce in-store selling costs."
“The Webby Awards honors the outstanding web sites that are setting the standards for the internet,” said Tiffany Shlain, founder and ambassador of The Webby Awards. “Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer Webby Award win in the retail category is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators at WHITTMANHART.”
